Is your child’s myopia getting worse? Struggling to stay focused on homework? This summer, let Warden Optometry in Markham help your child see clearly and learn better—while you, mom, can finally relax!
“My child’s myopia is progressing too fast. We need new glasses every year!”
“They rub their eyes, can’t sit still, and take forever to finish homework.”
“I’m worried about their grades and even more about their eyesight.”
These issues often stem from two hidden causes:
Fast-progressing myopia (elongated eye axis)
Visual dysfunction (e.g., poor accommodation and eye teaming)
Without proper management, not only does myopia worsen, but school performance suffers too—leading to more stress for the entire family.
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) uses high-oxygen rigid contact lenses worn overnight to reshape the cornea.
Clear vision without glasses during the day
Slows down myopia progression and axial elongation
Ideal for kids aged 7–12, and summer is the best time to start!
According to Prof. Pauline Cho from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PubMed 28253404), children with the fastest myopia progression benefit the most from Ortho-K, especially in the first year.
Dr. Kevin Chan, an myopia control optometrist speaker in the U.S., also emphasizes: “For fast progressors, early Ortho-K intervention is key to better outcomes.”
Our clinic has seen this firsthand with patients who have significantly slowed or stabilized their progression with timely Ortho-K fitting.
Additionally, the same study showed that orthokeratology significantly reduced the risk of rapid progression in younger subjects. Treating just two 6- to 8-year-old children with Ortho-K instead of single-vision spectacles could prevent one child from developing rapidly progressing axial elongation during this critical 2-year period.
Besides myopia, many children have:
Accommodation issues (over-focusing)
Poor binocular coordination (skipping lines/words)
Weak visual processing (difficulty remembering what they read)
These functional issues can’t be fixed by glasses or Ortho-K alone. They need Vision Therapy.
At Warden Optometry, Dr. Yan Ling Liang personally evaluates and customizes one-on-one vision training:
Weekly guided sessions
Daily short home exercises
Improved visual attention, reading, and motivation
No more yelling over homework or hours of forced tutoring!
Dr. Langis Michaud (University of Montreal) states: “When significant binocular issues are present, start with vision therapy before initiating Ortho-K or other myopia control treatments.”
At our clinic:
Comprehensive visual function evaluation
If dysfunction is found, start with vision therapy
Begin Ortho-K once the system is ready, for better comfort and success
9-year-old: from -2.00, only -0.25 increase after 1 year
8-year-old: from -3.00, only -0.50 increase over 3 years with Ortho-K + vision therapy
Family history of high myopia (-20.00 mom, -8.00 brother); younger sister stabilized at -2.25 after 10 years of early control
Boy with 7-year history: only -0.25 increase from -5.00
IEP student: no longer needs extra classroom support after therapy
Asher Bedi, U19 badminton champion, improved visual reaction time and hand-eye coordination through our training (Shared with permission).
Emily, age 8, went from -1.75D to -2.75D in just 9 months. She was diagnosed with accommodative tension and visual fatigue.
Treatment plan:
Relaxation glasses to reduce strain
Vision therapy to boost accommodation and focus
Started Ortho-K – 10 days later, no more daytime glasses!
One year later: stabilized prescription, reduced eye growth, better focus. Mom said, “She’s more focused, and I no longer have to nag her over homework.”
No school disruption during lens adaptation or training
Build strong visual foundations before September
See real changes during the break
